Scouts

Scouts is our third section in the Scout Group and caters for boys and girls between 10½ years and 14 years of age.

Scouts are easily recognised by their distinctive green shirts. However as we are ‘Sea Scouts’, our Uniforms are a distinctive shade of blue.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities that are often more challenging and adventurous than anything experienced in Cubs or Beavers.

In Sea Scouting, water and nautical activities are used as the basis of delivering a balanced programe. By joining our Group you could achieve nationally recognised water qualifications, i.e. BCU Canoe & Kayak Awards or RYA Sailing & Power Boating. There is also the chance to experience offshore sailing / cruising and navigation in both day and night conditions due to our relationship with the Discovery Sailing Project who are based in Southampton (http://www.dsp.uk.com/home.html).

We also cover areas that a traditional Scout section provide, including Camping and Adventure, First Aid and Information Technology. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who would like to be recognised for his or her achievements there are 70 Activity Award badges, 6 Staged Activity Awards and 10 Challenge Awards to be completed so there is something for everyone!
